There have been a few posts lately regarding unusual storm comparisons and also prenaming (e.g. calling an invest "pre-STORMNAME"), so we'd like to let you all know we strongly discourage both practices.
We don't mind comparing two different systems, but please keep in mind that some comparisons (e.g. a weaker, recently-formed system to a stronger, older system in the same area) can be seen by others as doomcasting, that is, thinking a storm will become this huge, powerful system that will cause chaos and destruction — even when there's no chance of it happening.
"Prenaming" here means exactly what you think: naming a system before it's given an official name (e.g. "90L (pre-Arlene) is getting powerful!"). Because we can't be 100% certain if that system will in fact get a name, it's best to not pre-name it at all. Not only this helps clear up some confusion, but it avoid having people judge you for doing something that may be seen as silly.
These are just tips, but we'll be looking into posts like these from now on as we keep Discussions fair, safe, and fun for everyone.
P.S. Keep the weather posts in the Weather discussion board! Makes it easier for us mods, so we don't have to move them there, and it makes it easier for everyone to locate them too.
