The 1946 Atlantic hurricane season was a fairly average season. Featuring ten tropical storms, six hurricanes, and two major hurricanes, the season started early with an unusual tropical storm that developed in early May. In early September, a Category 3 hurricane struck Houston, TX, causing over $300 million in damages. This storm was also the costliest of the season. Another, stronger hurricane, the strongest of the season in fact, struck Fort Lauderdale later in the month, causing $115 million in damages.
