The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season was a near-average season that produced 11 depressions, 10 named storms, 4 hurricanes, and 3 major hurricanes. All of the 3 major hurricanes, Ernesto, Gordon, and Joyce caused devastation across the areas they affected.
On June 2nd, at 12z, a tropical wave developed into Tropical Depression One. 9 hours later, it made landfall in southern Florida. The next day, June 3rd, at 18z, it strengthened into a tropical storm, earning the name Alberto. It retained its peak intensity for about 30 hours until making landfall in the Georgia-South Carolina border and dissipating 6 hours later.
The following list of names was used for named storms that formed in the North Atlantic in 2009. This was the same list used in the 2018 season, with the exceptions of Francine, and Milton, which replaced Florence and Michael respectively. The name Francine was used for the first time this year. Any names not retired this year will be used again in the 2030 season.
