The 1985 Atlantic Hurricane Season was a below-average season with 11 systems, 6 hurricanes and 4 major hurricanes. This season is also the first season to begin naming storms.
On June 24, a low pressure system left Africa and began drifting westward. After drifting for a few days, on July 1, it began to organize, and became a tropical depression on July 2, but operationally, was not classified.
The system soon intensified into a Tropical Storm, and later, a Category 1 hurricane. Bermuda was struck with 80 mph winds, causing damages. The storm started moving northeastward due to the jet stream, but still managed to become a major hurricane despite high wind shear. The storm began to steadily weaken, and became an extratropical system on July 14.
