Storm names[]
The following list of names are used for named storms that form in the North Atlantic in 2020. Retired names, if any, will be announced by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in the spring of 2021. The names not retired from this list will be used again in the 2026 season. This is the same list used in the 2014 season, with the exception of the names Arnold and Lucy, which replaced Arthur and Laura. Arnold, Lucy, and Trevor (which replaced Teddy in 2008) were used for the first time this year.

Auxiliary List[]
In 2005, the World Meteorological Organization implemented an extra naming list due to the extreme activity of the season and the fear of having to retire a Greek letter. Each list has an auxiliary list, and if one warrants a retirement, it will be retired, like the rest of the naming list. This auxiliary list was used for the first time this season. Once the auxiliary list runs out, such as the case in 2005, then Greek letters will be used. This is the second year on record to exhaust the auxiliary list.

Retirement[]
In the spring of 2021, at the 43rd session of the RA IV hurricane committee, the World Meteorological Organization retired the names Hosana, Isaiah, Klaus, Paloma, Rene, Wilfred, Bronson, Isa, and Kimmy from its rotating name lists due to the deaths and damage they caused, and they will not be used again for another Atlantic hurricane. They were replaced with Harper, Irving, Kyle, Paulette, Roy, Waylon, Boone, Inessa, and Kaitlyn for the 2026 season, respectively.
Due to the extreme activity and second usage of the Greek letters, new names were added to each rotating auxiliary list, from letters L to W, excluding Q and U. For this list, the names Lawrence, Melanie, Noah, Oriana, Paolo, Rylee, Sterling, Tess, Viyan, and Wilhelmine were added.
