The 2014 Atlantic hurricane season was a slightly below average season, featuring 25 named storms, 12 hurricanes, and 5 major hurricanes, which caused a total of $2.6743 billion (2014 USD) in damages. The season officially began on June 1, 2014, and lasted until November 30, 2014. These dates conventionally delimit the period of each year when most tropical cyclones form in the Atlantic basin. However, tropical cyclogenesis is possible at any time of the year.
