Hurricane Idol (HI) is a biannual event in Hypothetical Hurricanes Wiki in which users can submit hurricane names (real or fake) into a competition to determine which name is the best out of a pool of names. For many rounds starting at the beginning of the season, judges that are selected by the host pick which names will not move on to the next round. After the number of names are significantly diminished, the users themselves get to vote the names that they want to send into the next round. The last 3 names get a chance to be crowned the winner of the HI season, and as a result is barred from use in future seasons.
The event had its first season begin on March 12, 2013. Since then, there have been 22 seasons that were held, each season having one unique winning name except in Season 9 where Wilma won for the second time. The latest season is Season 24, which ended on May 26, 2024, and saw the name Mireille winning it all.
