Are you new to the Hypothetical Hurricanes Wiki? Do you want to learn more about how to make a hypothetical tropical cyclone season here? Well, you have come to the right place! This article as as a guide to making your very own tropical cyclone season on this wiki!

Steps

There are several ways to make a tropical cyclone season.

A.) Go to the "Contribute" button and click on the "Add a Page" feature. From there, a window asking you what you want to call your season, and it will give you three different lay-outs: blank, standard, or top-ten list. In most cases, you should choose the "blank" feature.

Next, you enter the year you want the season to take place (e.g. a future year such as 2016) and what tropical cyclone basin you want it to take place in. Enter this information in the "What do you want to call it?" box.

Here are some tropical cyclone basin examples:

  • Atlantic (Atlantic hurricane season),
  • Eastern and Central Pacific (Pacific hurricane season),
  • Western Pacific (Pacific typhoon season),
  • Southern Pacific (South Pacific cyclone season),
  • South-Western Indian (South-West Indian Ocean cyclone season), and
  • Northern Indian (North Indian Ocean cyclone season)

After this step, you are redirected to the season creation page.

For making hurricane infoboxes, use the following informatiom

Okay, this is how infoboxes are made:

  • First you type in {{Infobox hurricane new.
  • Then you specify which basin your hypothetical tropical cyclone is in. Here is the list:
  • Atlantic: Atl
  • Eastern or Central Pacific: EPac
  • Western Pacific: WPac
  • North Indian Ocean: NIO
  • Southern Hemisphere: SHem
  1. South-West Indian Ocean: SWI
  2. Australian Region: Aus
  3. South Pacific: SPac

Type |Basin=(name of basin) after #1.

  • Third, you type in an appropriate image that shows your storm at peak intensity. It should say: |Image=(name of image).(file format).

OPTIONAL: Use |Track=(file name of track) if you have a track of the storm.

  • Fourth, you type in the date your cyclone formed. Type it in as |Formed=(date of formation).
  • Fifth, you type in the date your cyclone dissipated. Type it in as |Dissipated=(date of dissipation).
  • Sixth, you type in how strong your cyclone is in knots. You can use |1-min winds, |3-min winds, or |10-min winds. The value must be a number!

OPTIONAL: Type |Gusts=(gusts in knots) to tell how strong gusts were. This value must be a number!

  • Seventh, you type in how strong your cyclone is in millibars. Type in |Pressure=(pressure in millibars) in the template.

The following is only needed for Category 6+ storms or subtropical cyclones:

  • Enter |Type=(category name) to specify your category. You can find a list of categories here.
  • Specify which warning center your cyclone is being warned on. I think "CPHC", "IMD", "JMA", and "NHC" all work.
  • Finally, type in }} to complete your template.

Here are some examples:

Hurricane Huko

{{Infobox hurricane new |Basin=Atl |Image=Fiona 2016.jpg |Formed=October 25 |Dissipated=October 30 |1-min winds=175 |Pressure=918 |Type=cat6 |WarningCenter=CPHC}}

The above becomes:

Category 6 hurricane (CPHC)
Fiona 2016
DurationOctober 25 – October 30
Peak intensity200 mph (325 km/h) (1-min) 918 mbar (hPa)

Another example:

Cyclonic Storm Phet-Kurt

This: {{Infobox hurricane new |Basin=NIO |Image=04W.2020.jpg |Formed=June 6 |Dissipated=June 9 |3-min winds=40 |Pressure=994 |Type=cyclstorm |WarningCenter=IMD}}

Becomes:

Cyclonic storm (IMD)
04W.2020
DurationJune 6 – June 9
Peak intensity75 km/h (45 mph) (3-min) 994 hPa (mbar)

B.) Another way to create a hurricane season would be to type in http://hypotheticalhurricanes.wikia.com/wiki/Special:CreatePage in your URL address box. From here, you should be redirected to a window asking you what you want to call your season. Using the same process as Option A, type in the year and basin your season occurs in. Click "OK" and use the same steps as listed in Option A to make a good hurricane season.
